What Does Calling In Protection Really Do?

There’s a popular belief in the meta community that says before you do any serious spiritual work, you have to call in protection for yourself. This usually involves a protocol where you enact precise rituals, or recite specific prayers, or call on certain angels, or surround yourself with the proper crystals.

My take? This is rubbish.

Following all of these rules makes the process very ritualistic, which is sort of the point: it keeps you focused on the steps so that you stay plugged into doing it “correctly” according to an authority outside of self.

What you’re actually doing when you call on angels or call in the “light” and ask for protection is putting a big ole target on your back. You’re signaling to the tricksters out there – those collectives that tend to be more nefarious in nature – that you’re not strong enough to protect yourself. It’s like putting a neon flashing light over your head that says “here I am, come mess with me.”

This approach says you are a victim.

The way to protect yourself is easy: you learn to distinguish self from non-self. This approach is how you’ll know when something enters your field that shouldn’t be there. And the instant you’re aware of it, you kick it out. YOU are the keeper of your energy field. YOU are all the protection you will ever need.

If you’ve been told you have to call in protection to keep you safe, then the idea that you actually DON’T have to do that might be kicking up some feelings for you. If you’re feeling some resistance to this new information, see if you can identify the WHY behind the resistance. Is it fear? What’s driving the fear? Is it a disempowerment story that you’ve bought as truth?

This whole thing might be a new concept for you, the idea of distinguishing self from non-self. And it might feel awkward or seem like an impossible task, especially if you’re used to taking on everyone’s emotions as your own. As with any new skill, it will take practice.

The process of learning what’s yours and what’s not starts with a question. Every time you have a thought, feel an emotion, experience a memory, stop and ask: is this even mine? If yes, process it and release it. If the answer is no, return it to sender. Don’t take it in to play with it; simply cast it out. It’s not yours to deal with. As you practice this, you’ll develop a rhythm and a sense of who you are, which makes it easier to recognize when something enters your field that feels different, or off.

This is the secret: mastering your own energy field.

Following a bunch of scripted steps that’s supposed to keep the bad, evil, nasty stuff away puts you in the position of victim, hoping you’ve done it right, hoping that “they” hear you and respond. This approach supports victim mentality, perpetuating the idea that you’re not big enough, strong enough, worthy enough to handle your own needs. It keeps you seeing the world through the eyes of a victim. But the truth is something very different. You are a sovereign being and are more powerful than you realize. Time to take your power back.
